He said he bought it new in the 1970’s while stationed in Europe, as his music options were limited. He doesn’t use it anymore and they are trying to reduce clutter. He asked for $300. It's famous for being the first true Hi-Fi tapedeck (an ancestor of the Nakamichi Dragon somehow), and some people even say that it "blows away" modern tape decks. Unless you use alot of it over a long period of time, it's not going to hurt anything. The rubber cleaner you have is probably fine.

The only autoreverse decks that I know of that don't have a belt, are the Akai GX-R88 and GX-R99, where each capstan has a Direct Drive motor. The capstan drives being the only place I have seen belts in the various decks that I own. I don't know about their non autoreverse decks of the same era though.

There is a very nice forum dedicated to tape, called tapeheads, and they might be able to make positive recommendations. My only excuse for keeping cassette going is to play old recordings from the radio as my car is cd only. I used to love playing tapes in the car.

I had a DD99 deck. It was their flagship model in the early 80's when I bought it new. In the early 90's it needed service, ie didn't work anymore.
