There wasn't a whole lot of them made in 308 before 1960 so collectors and hunters are looking for them. On the author’s 1942-vintage 99 RS, while the buttpad is slightly curved to fit the shoulder, it’s all steel. The rifle I bought is a 1942-vintage, 99 RS in .300 Savage.
